Hello, I am now on Patreon!

Hello friends!

Over the last almost decade I’ve been fortunate enough to build a lovely community around me. I have taken on a number of musical and creative endevours, and met so many great people from them. I’m often asked “what the best way of directly supporting independent artists?”

The industry is rapidly changing, and nothing is the same as it was last year, let alone five years ago. The plain and simple fact is that no one really has to pay for music anymore, and there’s a slim chance that will change anytime soon. BUT there are many people that still want to pay for music, and still go out to shows. Which is so rad and I am so very thankful for those people! I have nothing against people that like free music, I’ve been sharing music on YouTube and my website for years and will continue to do so.

So what is this Patreon thing, and why are we talking about it?

Patreon is an ongoing method of supporting creators and art you like. It’s similar to Kickstarter in a way, where you contribute directly to the artist. But, Patreon is different in the way that it is meant for ongoing projects, and artists that have a lot of work to share on a regular basis! You can contribute any amount you wish, and you can set a limit so you don’t ever go past your comfortable monthly limit.  As you know, I’m working on new music, and I’m doing it in a different way than I have in the past: slowly. This will be better in the long run, and it allows me the creative freedom to get the songs just right! While I’m writing/recording etc, I’ve been releasing weekly videos on my YouTube channel: music performances, vlogs, soundtracks, or sit-down-and-chat episodes.

So, the way I will use Patreon is this: if you feel the videos and content I make are of equal value to an mp3 or cool cassette (cd?) then you can show your support with a pledge. Your pledge piles on to others’ pledges, and we reach goals together. I work hard on videos, my forthcoming new album (!!), and creating content that is worthy of your patreon-age, and I get paid for it.  I’ll be posting a video once a week, on Wednesdays.

You’ll get some rewards for your pledges, including mp3s sent to you as I release them, live session audio, you’ll see videos a day early, free albums, you’ll get discount codes for merch. And, all levels have access to my ‘patron-feed’ which is a blog/forum that we can chat together!

No pressure, if you can’t or don’t want to donate that is completely okay with me. We are still cool, and I appreciate your support just being here, or listening to my music. But if you want to become a patron, or you are curious, you can click here:www.patreon.com/katburns

Much love from Toronto,
