Like many Canadians, and appreciators around the world, I’m incredibly saddened at the news that Gord Downie has terminal brain cancer. I always counted myself a casual fan of the band, but found myself reflecting on just how omnipresent his words have been throughout my life. Whether on radio, MuchMusic or sharing a festival billl; he was everywhere. I can’t deny that I’m feeling a lot more sad than I’d ever expected. Here’s one of his solo songs, Blackflies, from his fantastic Coke Machine Glow album. I hope you enjoy it. Thanks for the music, Gord, and for the words that wrapped Canadiana into bite sized poetic pieces. xo Kat
